my sawdust flyer

I wanted to make a graphic that showed a few of the things that were shown in past festivals and the main building associated with the event. I figured if I surrounded the main building with other pictures it may get a little too cluttered and not work for a t-shirt or logo. So I chose a few pictures and made a dice formation (like the number 5 on a die) which allowed for enough empty space for words that would contrast the vivid images. The colors I used are representative of the logo shown in the middle picture and repeated at the bottom right of the flyer. When filling the text in with color I wanted them to contrast the background equally and not just uniformly blend in. So I created a gradient color scheme that allowed the announcement of the event to pop out of the page on both the top and bottom. I used a stronger stroke for the event lettering because it made the words seem older which most people would see as traditional and important.

The event also wants to be associated with the art of California, so the colors I used also represent the colors on the California state flag. For the other types of lettering I tried to vary the font so each bit of information would stick out separately, but I wanted the location and motto to stay the same because of their proximity and importance. I feel the repetition of the word ‘Sawdust’ throughout the flyer helps the viewer/reader remember what the event is called the contrast of the white lettering will help them find the essential information a lot easier.
